Washington Mutual, Freddie Mac and The Community College Foundation formed an innovative partnership in 2005 with the purpose of dismantling misperceptions about the home buying process. The eBus traveled through Southern California and Phoenix, Arizona to bring the dream of homeownership straight to the doorstep of local communities. Individuals who came aboard the eBuses were able to access satellite Internet at each of the 12 computer workstations and access online tools and personalized services that helped individuals bring the dream home by assisting them on the route to homeownership.
On board, individuals receive:
Free credit reports
Access to Washington Mutual banking and mortgage services
Access to online tools such as online banking and bill pay training
Consumer protection education with information on preventing identity theft and predatory lending
Adult financial literacy education
Washington Mutual Homeownership Mobile events partnered with local providers to offer an array of services aboard the eBus. Partners included local housing and credit counselors, real estate professionals, city housing departments, faith-based organizations and other community based organizations.
Since October 2005, the Welcome Home with Washington Mutual Homeownership Mobile helped more than 5,998 individuals achieve financial literacy and provided homebuyer counseling to over 219 people!
We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Washington Mutual and Freddie Mac for allowing the eBus Program to deliver homeownership education to underserved communities throughout Southern California and Phoenix, Arizona from October 2005 to April 2006.
